At Westwood our priority is to ensure that your pet receives safe and effective medications for the treatment of chronic conditions such as arthritis, diabetes, hyperthyroidism and heart problems.
After the initial diagnosis and stabilising treatment for your pet we will then recommend an interval at which we need to examine your pet to review treatments options. This interval will depend on the medication prescribed and the health of your pet.
The examination will focus on the effectiveness and safety of the treatment of your pets condition. A full clinical history and examination will be performed. Blood samples may be taken to ascertain whether there are any side effects of the treatment and whether the correct dose is being prescribed. Further tests such as blood pressure monitoring or X-rays may be advised. Generally the interval between examinations will be between 3 and 6 months.
When this examination is part of your annual booster/ health check there will be no additional charge. When the examination is on another occasion there will be a charge of £12 plus the cost of any blood samples or other tests. Medications will be dispensed for one month of treatment, and we ask that you give the practice 48 hours notice before requesting these. You may request a supply of medication by phone or email to the appropriate surgery. Please remember to give us the details of which medication you require and your name and your pet's name. If you require a written prescription for a months supply of treatment there is a charge of £12.50 per prescription item.
If you have any concerns about your pet or their medication between visits please telephone the practice.
